Volunteers will help with numerous community activities including art, and cleaning projects. Alpha Epsilon Delta, the USA pre-health professional honor society, will be painting at the Community Action Center. The USA College of Engineering students will participate in a weatherproofing project at a local home, and Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity will be volunteering at the Mulherin Home from 1-5 p.m. Volunteers will also clean and cook at the Ronald McDonald House and sort donated items at Penelope’s Closet. Students are encouraged to find service projects on their own as well.
This initiative is sponsored by the USA Center for Academic Service Learning and Civic Engagement, which is directed by English Instructor Karen Peterson. Additional sponsors for the event are the USA Student Government Association, Jaguar Productions, Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast and South Brookley United Methodist Church.
USA Joins universities and organizations around the country in supporting the community by participating in service projects. Service learning is a student-focused community effort that builds civic-minded citizens through community service. Students are also mentored by faculty, business and community partners.
Volunteers can pre-register and fill out a liability waiver at /centers/caslce/mlk2015.html.
