New Faculty Resources

Welcome to the °ÄÃÅ×î×¼ÕæÕý×î×¼×ÊÁÏ´óÈ«! We hope that your experiences as a faculty member here at South will be rewarding and successful.

In order to further assist you in your teaching, the °ÄÃÅ×î×¼ÕæÕý×î×¼×ÊÁÏ´óÈ« offers faculty development programming through the Innovation in Learning Center (ILC). All new faculty are expected to complete the following:

• Ten hours of professional development during their first year at USA.
  • At least six of the ten hours should be completed by direct participation in programming offered through the Innovation in Learning Center (ILC). ILC workshops and programs are held throughout the year.
  • Participation in New Faculty Scholars satisfies the six-hour requirement.

New full and part-time faculty members should consult extensively with the appropriate department chair or designee concerning specific departmental policies and procedures. We also encourage you to explore the Faculty Handbook.

In order to assist you in getting started, we have collected the following resources. (These resources apply to full time, tenure track, non-tenure track, clinical, as well as part time faculty.)

These resources are intended to provide support for your initial administrative tasks at South Alabama, such as setting up your JagNet email account, accessing faculty and employee services via PAWS, and advising via Navigate South.

JagNet Support

JagNet is the authentication system used to access JagMail, PAWS, Canvas, JagSpot, and many other University services. ALL currently employed University faculty and staff are assigned JagNet accounts.

Navigate South is a multifunctional web-based retention and advising tool designed by Education Advisory Board (EAB).

The Faculty Development Council Fellows program provides junior faculty with a structured, incentivized framework for developing a significant proposal for external funding or prestigious fellowships.

The ILC offers various and ongoing faculty and course development opportunities, ranging from our instructional workshops and virtual drop-in hours to year-long programs such as New Faculty Scholars or our MéPLE Mentoring.

New Faculty Scholars is a year-long program that assists South’s newest faculty by providing support for scholarly achievement, innovative teaching, and outstanding public engagement and service.

MéPLE Mentoring

Sponsored by the ILC and the Faculty Senate Mentoring Committee, this mentoring program offers an inclusive, supportive network for faculty of various disciplines, ranks, and experience.
